This spot we thought would be ideal for a small water feature. It is right next to a sitting area in the garden. You can see what has become my biggest challenge with the layout of this pond, Rocks ! I hit this little one right in the beginning of the dig. That one and most of the others i get from this hole will be reused in the design.I started to expand the hole and then hit trouble. These huge stones are below where my water line will be and they need to be dealt with or this pond is a bust all ready !Beautiful Flat Stones ! Dont ya just love New England...This is the last of the large stones in this hole and now I need to clean all the edges so a liner will not get torn. Not decided on the final depth yet but this end will be a deeper hole for the Koi to winter over in.This end will have the waterfall and will also be a deeper pool.Another Problem ! This stone is huge and has to stay where it is so I think will reconstruct the wall out of clay silt. The string here represents the water line. The shallow end will be about 15" deep when I am done.I had 10 yards of clay silt delivered today to build the walls back up, terrace the sides and cover the base of the hole for better liner protection. Here is a few of the stones that came out of the hole for this pond. They will be put to good use for the waterfall.I dug out the back portion of the pond and removed even more rocks. Im going to lessen the depth under the water fall to 4 feet so I will back fill with clay silt.More stone out of that hole !Here is the backside of the pond dug back about 2 feet more and then the bank graded with clay. Beginning to lay the stone for the waterfall .I took this picture on January 26, 2010. Still no liner in the pond yet but with just a clay silt bottom it almost filled the day after a nasty rainstorm and snow melt.
