When we first looked at this house with the real estate agent, this room was absolutely trashed. But what caught our eye were the nice angles and corners that this room had and the beautiful views of the property you get from the second floor when you look out the window. I had to do some minor repairs to the woodwork on the doorframe, but it was original wood and I wanted to keep it that way it. I repaced the cheap hollow door with a solid pine panel door also.
The beaded doorway on the right goes into a walk-in closet I just finished for Kelly. It was an oddly shaped tiny space that was actually used as a bedroom in years past. That must have been some tight quarters. The main chimney of the house runs inside the wall next to the doorway where you see the picture hanging. When a new heating system was added, the duct work was cleverly placed along the chimney creating that double box effect.
- There were quite a few good sized holes in the plaster on the lower wall where the back of the bed is and after taking 2 days to repair and fix the holes I sat back, looked at the wall , and thought to myself... "a nice half wall panel would define the angle of the ceiling a bit more and add a nice touch. What a waste of time that was...LOL
Ahh...the window...
I could go on for hours about this but lets just say it had no frame, no shelf and about a 4" gap in the wall all the way around it when we first saw this room. The closet was also a disaster area with exposed wood lathe but is now replastered and has shelving on both sides for storage.

This was a very dark and morbid looking room in the beginning, but the added light and color scheme of the flowered wallpaper and light greens brightened up the room and created a relaxing atmosphere. We are both very happy with this room and the way it turned out and it will always be there for friends and family that may need some rest and relaxation out on the farm.
